Last Friday, May 6, the panel “Humanism and New Economies” took place within the framework of the “Lectio Inauguralis” of the academic year 2022, at the Punta del Este headquarters of the Latin American Center for Human Economy University (UCLAEH).

Exponents from different organisations reflected on the present and the future of Humanism in relation to the current situation and the proposals of the models known as new economies or transformative economies. The meeting was presented by the Rector of UCLAEH, Dr. Carlos de Cores, and moderated by the person in charge of the Chair of Social Responsibility in Organisations, Lic. Óscar Licandro.

The face-to-face session was at full capacity and included the participation of accountant Enrique Iglesias, president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) from 1988 to 2005, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and General Secretary the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB); Dr. Natalia Hughes, co-president of Sistema B Uruguay and member of the team that drafted the Regime of Companies and Trusts of Collective Benefit and Interest law (“BIC Companies and BIC Trusts”) in Uruguay; and chemical engineer Gualberto Trelles, co-founder and coordinator of the Economy for the Common Good Local Chapter in Uruguay.

The tools and concepts put forward by the ECG were well-received and generated an interest to continue deepening these conversations, within the framework of Human Economy.
